Justice Minister Pavlo Petrenko and Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador to Ukraine Mari Jovanovic signed a Joint Action Plan for the implementation of international technical assistance for the development of professional skills of lawyers legal aid system.
According to the Minister of Justice, through the support of the partner system BPD opens 5 regional resource and communication platforms, which held seminars, workshops and online training for lawyers.
"It's very important to support the US government in building the rule of law and human rights. This is the foundation for strong democratic and independent Ukrainian state, "- said the head of the Justice Ministry.
He stressed that the successful implementation of this project is the subject of his personal attention, as a developed system of legal aid to citizens can make Ukraine stronger and every Ukrainian - more secure.
"Last year alone, more than 800 thousand people received assistance in our centers in all types of cases. 2000 citizens were acquitted in criminal proceedings for unjustified charges. This is the fate of 2000 that have not been broken system. Thank thousands of lawyers and other members of the system BPD who daily carry out very important work - have confidence in the protection of rights for those who in '25 could not even hope for justice, "- said the Minister of Justice.
He assured: the development of the legal aid system throughout the country - a priority, which is enshrined in the action program of the Cabinet. Therefore, the system will continue to develop.
"This year, on the basis of the legal aid system and 5 new regional resource and communication platforms Justice launched the project" I have a right! ". The purpose of the project - raising legal awareness and literacy of our citizens ", - informed Pavel Petrenko.
US Ambassador Marie Jovanovich Ukraine for his part said that the project provide citizens with legal aid is one of the most successful in Ukraine. But lawyers systems play a vital role in protecting the rights of people who were detained and accused persons in criminal proceedings.
"I am honored today to sign a joint action plan that would expand our cooperation and assistance to the American side. We will assist in developing regional resource and communication platforms that have become hubs knowledge sharing, online education or training and seminars ", - said the Ambassador.
She said the fact that the provision of legal assistance to vulnerable people organized not only criminal but also in administrative and civil cases, shows that Ukraine protects human rights and is moving towards the implementation of international standards.
