Round table "Visa-free regime - no guarantee of safety" was held in Zhytomyr within the framework of the European Day against Trafficking in Human Beings
On October 18, at the initiative of the Office of Family, Youth and Sports of Zhytomyr Oblast State Administration, a round table discussion entitled "Visa-free regime - no guarantee of safety" was held at the press center of the Zhytomyr Regional Council.
This forum was attended by responsible representatives of the relevant departments of the Regional State Administration, the Northern Regional Office of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, the Department of the LCA of Ukraine in the Zhytomyr Oblast, the Regional Employment Center, NGOs, and the media.
Opening the meeting, Oleksandr Antonyuk, Deputy Head of the Department for Family, Youth and Sport of Zhytomyr Oblast, said that on October 18, on the initiative of the European Parliament, the European Day against Trafficking in Human Beings was launched as a day of consolidation of efforts to raise awareness about the problem of trafficking in human beings, especially women and children, the indifference of the public to this phenomenon and the visualization of the problem at the global level.
Irina Babenko, head of the public organization "Women's Information and Consultation Center", told about the work of this organization with people who have suffered from trafficking in human beings, as well as about people who actively help to counteract this crime.
Addressing the participants of the round table, Anatoliy Fedorchuk, First Deputy Chief of the Department of Internal Affairs of Ukraine in Zhytomyr, drew attention to the latest developments in the field of state migration policy, practical application of the provisions of the legislation, taking into account the requirements of the visa-free regime.
During the discussion, representatives of civil society organizations raised the issue of the risks of vulnerable groups of the population, in particular women and children, in the situation of trafficking in human beings.
Summing up the speakers, the deputy head of the Department of Family, Youth and Sports of Zhytomyr Oblast State Administration Alexander Antoniuk noted that Ukraine provides state support to people who have suffered from trafficking in human beings, in particular social, medical, legal, educational and material. In addition, people affected by trafficking in human beings can get help through a network of civic organizations and advisory services by calling the National Anti-Trafficking Hotline.
