UN urged all to "Olympic Truce"
UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon called for an "Olympic Truce" at the time of the Summer Games in Rio de Janeiro, which will begin on August 5.
In his address, UN Secretary General urged participants to disarm all conflicts and differences in delay time while the competition will take place.
"The International Olympic Committee and the United Nations work closely together in the interests of global harmony and peace. With this in mind we announce "Olympic Truce" and call on all warring parties to lay down their arms and set aside differences for the Games, "- said the secretary general. Note that the tradition of making a truce for a sporting event originated in ancient Greece. It enabled the athletes to safely arrive to events, and then return home. In 1992, with a call to observe "Olympic Truce" by the International Olympic Committee. A year later, this initiative has supported the UN General Assembly.
Recall that in Rio de Janeiro from 5 to 21 August will XXXI Summer Olympic Games, and from 7 to 18 September - XV Paralympic Summer Games.
