NATO Secretary General: The transfer of troops To the east is completed
The transfer of NATO troops to the eastern flank to the Baltic States and Poland is completed. This was stated by NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg during his visit to Latvia.
"From now on, the redeployment has been completed," Stoltenberg said at a ceremony held at the military base in Adazi, 20 kilometers from Riga.
Thus, NATO fulfilled its promise of "protecting the Union, reacting to aggression and preserving peace" taken over a year ago in Warsaw, said the Alliance's secretary general.
Stoltenberg considers the number of troops in the region to be sufficient, increasing their number is not planned. At the same time, he urged the countries of the North Atlantic Alliance to continue to seek ways to dialogue with Moscow. According to him, nobody wants to return the times of the Cold War.
Recall that NATO countries at the July 2016 summit decided to transfer forces to the Baltic States and Poland to ensure their security against Russia's actions in Ukraine. Germany is commanding NATO's Allied Allied Battalion in Lithuania, the Americans in Poland, the British in Estonia, and the Canadians in Latvia.
The bulk of military equipment and troops from Germany were sent to Lithuania in the winter and spring. Later, soldiers from the Netherlands joined them.
Earlier, Jens Stoltenberg stated that the international community should continue to exert pressure on Russia to force it to fulfill its obligations to resolve the crisis in Ukraine.
