Ukraine has issued a million ID-card

An ID-card with the number 001000000 was issued in Kyiv. Kyiv schoolgirl became the owner of the millionth electronic ID-card.
New ID-cards in Ukraine were introduced in January 2016 to replace the paper-based passport of a Ukrainian citizen in 1994 with a photo-stuck photo. The main motive for the introduction of new modern documents was the very security - old passports-booklets are morally obsolete and to date are not protected from tampering.
In the first stage (until November 2016), new electronic documents were issued only to adolescents as the first passport; starting from November 2016, ID-cards are also issued in all cases where replacement of a passport is required - loss, damage, change of personal data of a person. To date, the passports-booklets of the 1994 model in Ukraine are not issued.
For several years, the Migration Service has studied the experience of countries that have introduced ID-cards and chose the most gentle way to replace ID documents - the replacement is carried out naturally, the deadlines for the validity of old documents are not provided by law. All ID cards, as well as foreign passports, are biometric documents, that is, they contain a contactless electronic medium, which records biometric data of the owner.
The head of the migration service, Maxim Sokolyuk, emphasized that, despite the fact that the ID-card is a document for internal use within the state, it technically meets the international requirements for travel documents. After signing a bilateral agreement with the Republic of Turkey, citizens of Ukraine - ID-card holders were able to travel to Turkey without a passport from June 2017, with ID cards only.
Myths spread in the community regarding new ID-cards have not been realized - the new documents are really easy to use and do not require reading to identify the owner. A paper extract from the Single State Demographic Register, which is free to be issued with an ID card, is not required to be carried daily with you - this is a paper-based confirmation of the place of residence, which gradually goes away in the past. Due to the application of the taxpayer numbers on the ID-card, the owners of new documents did not need to carry with them a tax inspection certificate.
The information contained on the built-in ID-card chip can be read using a modern smartphone that supports NFC data transfer technology, according to telecom operators, the number of such smartphones in Ukraine exceeds 3 million.
The migration service, from the beginning of the introduction of the new ID-card, was taking exhaustive measures to inform new citizens of all citizens, as well as organizations, institutions and authorities that establish a person during the provision of services.
