An Expert Meeting on the Issues of Preventing the Promotion of Unregulated Migration was held

On October 7-18, 2017, a Expert Meeting on the Prevention of the Promotion of Unregulated Migration in the framework of the Migration and Asylum Panel of the EU Eastern Partnership Initiative was held in Kyiv.

The co-organizers of the event were Ukraine, Lithuania, the European Commission and the Office of the International Organization for Migration in Ukraine.

Representatives of the Eastern Partnership countries (European Union, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Armenia, Georgia, Moldova, Ukraine), foreign experts on migration issues, as well as representatives of international and non-governmental organizations participated in the event.

Welcoming the participants of the meeting, the Head of the State Migration Service of Ukraine Maxim Sokolyuk emphasized the extreme importance of systematic prevention of trafficking in human beings and crimes related to the organization of the illegal movement of people across borders, since such migrants are deprived not only of documents but also of any rights in their country of residence.

During the meeting, the participants discussed a number of issues related to prevention and counteraction to the promotion of unregulated migration, legislative and legal aspects of regulation in this area. Experts' attention was paid to the directions of establishing close bilateral and multilateral cooperation, as well as exchange, during interactive sessions, practical experience on matters raised on the agenda of the event.
