The EU reported a decrease in the flow of illegal immigrants
The number of illegal migrants arriving in Europe decreased significantly - by three major migration routes to the EU came to about 8,000 workers.
Frontex agency notes that the central Mediterranean route to Italy 4400 arrived migrants by 16% compared with January last year and almost 46% - compared to December. The bulk of the migrants coming to the EU on this route goes from Libya.
The main reason for reducing the flow of migrants who come to Europe on this route, worsening weather conditions.
In the Eastern Mediterranean route to the Greek islands in the eastern Aegean Sea in January 1760 arrived migrants, 18% less than in December last year. "Syrians, Palestinians and Algerians make up the largest number of workers on this route," - said Frontex.
Earlier, the European Commission has allowed a further three months to extend border controls for some countries of the Schengen zone. This includes Austria, Germany, Sweden, of Denmark and Norway (not EU), which in 2015 introduced checks at the borders against the backdrop of record inflows to these countries Syrian refugees and migrants from Africa and the Middle East.
