The Council recommended to continue border controls within the Schengen

This can make Austria, Germany, Denmark, Sweden and Norway.
European Council recommended to extend for six months the temporary internal border controls in the Schengen area through exceptional circumstances.
"Starting from the date expires prior decision, Austria, Germany, Denmark, Sweden and Norway can continue proportional temporary border controls for a maximum period of six months at internal borders" - said in a statement.
It also notes that before proceeding control, Member States concerned shall exchange views to ensure that border controls are carried out only where there is reason to believe it necessary and proportionate.
Thus, the control should be limited in scope, frequency, location, and time, and implemented strictly necessary to respond to a serious threat and to ensure that government policy and the internal security because of the risk of secondary movements of illegal immigrants.
Member States which carry out these controls have weekly check whether they are still necessary, and adapt them to the level of threat, minimizing where appropriate. They must also report to the Commission and the Council every month.
