Illegal migration from Mexico has reached a minimum since 2000 - the United States
This is the lowest figure since at least 2000, said the head of the US Department of Homeland Security, John Kelly.
In the beginning of spring of this year, the least 12,5 thousand people were detained, by the end of winter - 18,8 thousand people, in January - 31,5 thousand people.
According to him, "dramatically, the number of detentions decreased especially in the last two months," that is, after the new president of the United States, Donald Trump, came to power.
Recall, according to the latest information from the Bureau of Customs and Border Control, in the winter of this year, the US-Mexican border detained 23,589 illegal migrants. In winter, 31.5 thousand people were detained, and at the beginning of last winter - this was the last month of the work of the previous administration of Barack Obama - 43,000 people were detained. With all this, the service stressed that usually the number of illegal immigrants at the end of winter is 20% higher than in January.
Earlier it was said that the Trump administration wants to spend $ 1 billion on building a customs wall with Mexico to replace almost 100 km of some fences along the southern border.
