Office of the Ombudsman and UNICEF join forces to protect the rights of children caught in the zone of military conflict
June 12, 2015 Representative of the Commissioner for children's rights, non-discrimination and gender equality Aksana Filipishyna met with the coordinators of the Child Protection Children's Fund (UNICEF) in Ukraine Inigo Torres and Gabriel Akimova.
"Due to the difficult situation in eastern Ukraine, the Office of the Ombudsman carried out regular monitoring in Donetsk and Lugansk regions, which are orphans and children deprived of parental care. In addition, attention Ombudsman is given to children who have been displaced children institutions other regions of Ukraine: Odessa, Dnipropetrovsk, Kharkiv, Kyiv and so on ", - said Aksana Filipishyna.
According to the representative of the Commissioner, today there are many questions concerning the timely evacuation of children in case of aggravation of the situation, providing them with food, medicine, clothing and footwear, hygiene, the question remains difficult to document children and so on.
Representatives of the UN Children's Fund (UNICEF) in Ukraine expressed their proposals to join efforts with the Office of the Ombudsman for early detection of problems in the field of children's rights and provide them with necessary assistance.
