Identified OPG in the Carpathian region, which forged biometric passports
The attackers formed a package of forged documents for the allegedly living in a 30-kilometer border zone for foreign names.
The Security Service of Ukraine exposed the unlawful activities of a group of residents of Ivano-Frankivsk and Zakarpattia Oblasts, who manufactured fake ID-cards for crossing the border for persons who are prohibited from entering biometric passports.
The attackers formed a package of forged documents for the allegedly living in a 30-kilometer border zone for foreign names. Based on their produced ID-cards of participants of small border traffic - an intergovernmental agreement, which gives residents the opportunity to freely cross the border without checking fingerprints.
Such services were in demand among persons who had lost the right to enter the EU countries due to exceeding the period of stay or employment without a visa that would give such a right. In addition, the cybercriminals made an ID-card with the same photo, but already in the name of a citizen of one of the EU countries, which gave the owner the right to move within the European Union bypassing the ninety-day period stipulated by the visa-free regime. A set of cards for cybercriminals was estimated at one and a half thousand euros.
One of the participants of the group was detained by law enforcers when they handed over a package of documents to the customer near the railway station in Kiev. A 26-year-old local resident seized thirty-nine thousand hryvnia - the second part of the amount he received for fake ID-cards. During the search, an ID-card was also found on his own name and cards for other customers were prepared.
Criminal proceedings were opened under Part 3 of Art. 332 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. A message is being prepared about suspicion of the detainee and other members of the group.
