Foreign Ministry chooses the best way to restrict entry to Ukraine to Russian citizens
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine is working on how best to restrict entry to the country's citizens.
About this at a press conference on Friday, said the director of the political department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Alexei Makeev, reports Interfax-Ukraine.
According to him, one of the options is permission to cross the border for Russian citizens only on biometric passports.
"The work has begun, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, involving experts and civil society, is discussing this not only at the state, government level." This is one of the options ... The decision on this issue has not yet been accepted, and we have many tools, and each of them Has the right to the future. We will proceed from those real tasks that are put before the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and special services by the leadership of the state, "he said.
The diplomat also said that another option could be a restriction on entry for certain categories of citizens of the Russian Federation, which will be determined in the process of interaction with the special services, or as another option to introduce the visa regime.
According to Makeev, the introduction of an absolute ban on entry to Ukraine from the territory of the Russian Federation is also possible.
"In the end, an absolute ban can be imposed if, from the point of view of national security, there is such a need," the diplomat summed up.
The Foreign Ministry official said that according to the current legislation, the change in the order of entry / exit of persons to the territory of the country is within the competence of the government.
"The very procedure for travel of citizens is regulated by an intergovernmental agreement, in accordance with this, the powers of the government to change the agreement in force today," the diplomat added.
As you know, the head of the SBU Vasily Gritsak advocates that Russians enter Ukraine using only biometric passports.
And Secretary of the Council of National Security and Defense of Ukraine Oleksandr Turchynov stands for the speedy introduction of the visa regime with the Russian Federation.
