The Round Table on Enhancing Ukraine's Participation in the Implementation of the European Union Strategy for the Danube Region with the participation of the Head of the Regional Council Anatoliy Urbansky began its work.
The purpose of the event is to draw the attention of European colleagues to the problems and priorities of the Danube Region development on the territory of Ukraine, as well as to consolidate and coordinate the efforts of key players in the implementation of the Strategy at the central and regional levels of governance and civil society organizations and expert community.
The event is attended by about 60 participants, including Deputy Minister of Infrastructure for European Integration Victor Dovgan, Coordinator of Hungarian Presidency in the Danube Strategy in 2017 Felix Moldovan (Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Hungary), Coordinator of the Platform of Local Actors of the Danube Region of the 10th Priority Area Danube Strategy Daniele Urshitz (Vienna), Coordinator of Priority Area 1B of the Danube Strategy "Improving Mobility and Multi-modality - Automotive, Railways and Aircraft yne combination "Franz Zhepich (Ministry of Infrastructure of the Republic of Slovenia), representatives of the central government, regional administrations and regional councils Odesa, Chernivtsi, Ivano-Frankivsk and Zakarpattia regions and representatives of scientific and expert community and NGOs.
In his speech, the head of the regional council Anatoly Urbansky drew attention to the fact that for many centuries, the Danube remains the heart of Europe, which provides great opportunities for the states located on its shores.
"The Odessa Regional Council takes an active part in all areas of the Strategy for the Danube Region. Particular attention is devoted to the development of transport and communications, namely the priority: "mobility of waterways", improvement of the state of roads, railways and air traffic. Work is under way to restore the international passenger connection of Izmail-Tulta. There is a major overhaul of the Odessa-Reni international road network, as well as the highways in the Danube region. Only in 2017 it was directed to 2.4 billion UAH, of which on the Odessa-Reni road from the bypass road around the city of Reni - 2 billion UAH ", - said Anatoly Urbansky.
The chairman of the regional council expressed confidence that only joint efforts can develop the Danube region and promote the revival of our regions in equal proportions with European partners.
It should be noted that the work of the deputy group "EU Strategy for the Danube Region" under the chairmanship of the deputy of the regional council, professor, doctor of political sciences Yuri Maslova, which in his speech focused on that, plays a key role in the implementation of the Danube Strategy in the Odessa region. that only by consolidating the joint efforts of the participants of the Strategy, the professionalism and competence of specialists of the authorities, effective implementation of the Strategy at the central and regional level is possible.
Yuri Maslov also drew attention to another important direction for the Odessa region in the area of ??elimination of environmental risks - the implementation of the Clean River project, which will improve the situation with wastewater in the city of Izmail. This project will be implemented within the framework of the joint operating program "Romania-Ukraine 2014-2020".
The International Conference "The 2nd Day of Ukraine's Participation in the Implementation of the EU Strategy for the Danube Region" will last until 21:00.
Reference: The European Union's Strategy for the Danube Region is a macro-regional strategy adopted by the European Commission in December 2010 and endorsed by the Council of Europe in 2011. The strategy was developed by the European Commission in partnership with the countries of the Danube Region and other stakeholders in order to solve common problems. The strategy is aimed at ensuring interaction and coordination between the countries of the Danube Region and the projects, programs and initiatives implemented in the Danube region.
In general, the Danube Strategy includes 4 main areas of the "Danube Region Association", "Environmental Protection in the Danube Region", "Promoting Prosperity in the Danube Region", "Strengthening the Danube Region" and 11 priorities - transport and communications, energy, development of cultural, tourist and personal connections, restoration and maintenance of water quality, environmental risk management, biodiversity conservation, landscapes, air and soil quality, development of intellectual society through research , education and information technologies, support for enterprise competitiveness, including cluster development, investing in people and their qualifications, strengthening institutional capacity and cooperation, working together on security and addressing organized crime issues.
